Chef Yan, host of the world-renowned television cooking program “Yan Can Cook”, is a pioneer in introducing Chinese food culture to mainstream America. His culinary journey began at the age of 13 in a restaurant in Hong Kong, followed by further studies at the International Culinary Institute in Hong Kong, a Master’s Degree in Food Science from the University of California, and a PhD in Gastronomy from Jonathan Welsh University.
In the early 1980s, Canadian television invited Chef Yan to host “Yan Can Cook”, bringing the art of Chinese cooking to the international stage through a humorous and affectionate style. To date, over 3,500 episodes have been produced and the program has been enjoyed by viewers around the world.
Yan Can Cook has won an Emmy Award, three James Beard Awards and the 2022 James Lifetime Achievement Award. Yan Can Cook has aired on 280 PBS stations in the U.S. and in more than 50 countries around the world.
